Data from the first quarter in 2024 shows that 80% of 16- to 74-year-olds in Germany used messenger services such as WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram. The rate was slightly higher than the EU average (79%). The highest rates were recorded in the Netherlands (98%), Spain (93%) and Cyprus (92%).
In Germany, 58% of 16-74 year-olds were active on social networks. This figure was below the EU average of 65%. Social networks were used particularly often in Denmark (90%), Cyprus (87%) and Hungary (81%).
