Europe Germany has the highest proportion of rental tenants in the EU

In 2022, more than half of the population (53.5%) in Germany lived in rented accommodation. This was the highest share in the EU. The figure was significantly lower in France (36.6%), Spain (24.0%) or Poland (12.8%). In Romania, only 5.2% of the population lived in rental accommodation.
