Sustainable development indicators Indicators of the EU Commission

To measure the EU-wide achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an SDG indicator set consisting of around 100 existing EU indicators was developed under the leadership of Eurostat. This is intended to measure progress on the SDGs at European level and is structured according to the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The indicator set is regularly revised and is limited to six indicators per sustainability goal in order to give all goals the same importance and to enable a balanced measurement of the progress of all dimensions of sustainability. Individual indicators, so-called multifunctional indicators, are also used to monitor more than one goal.

The EU SDG indicator set is the basis for Eurostat's annual monitoring report on progress in achieving the SDGs in the EU context. A more concise version, which provides a statistical overview of the current state of development of the SDGs in the EU and its member states, is provided by the Eurostat publication Sustainable development in the European Union - Overview of progress towards in an EU context. Time series for selected indicators are available for all member states in the Eurostat database. The digital publication SDGs & me allows the results of individual EU member states to be viewed and compared with others.
