5 December 2022 Number of households receiving housing allowance down 3.7% in 2021

Approximately 595,300 households in Germany received housing allowance at the end of 2021. They accounted for 1.5% of all main residence households. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of recipient households declined by 3.7%, or about 22,900, compared with a year earlier. At the end of 2020, roughly 618,200 households had received housing allowance.
