Raw material footprint, 2018: share of regrowing raw materials amounted to 16%
Germany’s raw material footprint for 2018 was 1,373 million tonnes. The use of regrowing biotic raw materials (e.g. cereals, wood) accounted for 16%, or 224 million tonnes. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the raw material footprint remained almost unchanged on 2017 (-1.0%). The raw material footprint indicates how much raw material is used globally for the production of goods to meet domestic consumption and investment demand. Consumer and capital goods, but also import and export goods are expressed in raw material equivalents to take account of the use of raw materials over the entire value chain.
