About 10% of the foreign-controlled enterprises have parent companies in Asia. German enterprises whose parent companies are in Africa, South America or Australia and Oceania, were less frequent among all foreign-controlled enterprises. Enterprises in Germany controlled by parent companies in those continents totalled just 572, which was a share of about 1.6% in all Inward-FATS enterprises.
About 76% of the German foreign-controlled enterprises belonged to a group of companies whose parent company has its registered office in another European country. As regards non-European countries, Northern and Central America plays a prominent part. In reference year 2021, almost 13% of the German enterprises were controlled by parent companies located there.
