The statistic on foreign-controlled enterprises includes all enterprises resident in Germany that are controlled by a parent enterprise with its registered office abroad and belong to the non-financial business economy. The non-financial business economy includes manufacturing industry, other manufacturing industries, trade, hotels and restaurants and selected service activities, excluding financial and insurance activities. This statistic known as „Inward Foreign AffiliaTes Statistics“ (Inward-Fats), is based on a European Union regulation on the structure and activity of foreign-controlled enterprises.
