Information about the data
The interactive map shows the total energy consumption of industry broken down by administrative district. The detailed information about administrative districts also provides a breakdown of the energy carriers by coal, heating oil, natural gas, renewable energies (e.g. biomass), selectricity, heat and other energy sources (other mineral oil products, other gases and waste).
In this context, energy consumption includes consumption for both energy and non-energy purposes. Energy sources are used for non-energy purposes if they are not used as fuels but as raw materials for processing into products or goods (e.g. chemicals, plastics).
Where energy sources are used as fuels for electricity production in own plants, the total energy consumption contains double counts relating both to the energy contained in the fuels used and that in the electricity produced.
Other energy sources include all other mineral oil products, gases produced, sewage sludge, waste and any other energy sources.
The data are expressed in terajoules (TJ).
The classification of local units to the industry sector is determined on the basis of the Classification of Economic Activities, 2008 edition (WZ 2008), specifically sections B and C.
For some rural districts or towns not attached to an administrative district, the map does not provide pie charts because there the total value of energy consumption is subject to statistical confidentiality.
