International statistics Density of physicians

Definition: The indicator represents the number of medical doctors (physicians), including generalist and specialist medical practitioners, per 10,000 inhabitants. The World Health Organization compiles the data from various sources including censuses, labour force and employment surveys and administrative information systems. While much effort has been made to harmonize the data to enhance cross-national comparability, the diversity of sources means that considerable variability remains across countries in the coverage, quality and reference year of the original data.

Unit: per 10,000 inhabitants
