International statistics Long-term unemployment rate

Definition: Long-term unemployment includes all unemployed persons with continuous periods of unemployment extending for a year or longer. The indicator is expressed as a percentage of total unemployment (incidence of long-term unemployment). According to the ILO definition a person is unemployed, if they were not employed during the reference period, but were actively seeking employment in the four weeks prior to the survey and were able to take up a new position within two weeks. The search for a new job does not need to entail assistance by an agency.

Unit: % of all unemployed persons
