International statistics Carbon dioxide emissions

Definition: Carbon dioxide emissions stemming from the burning of fossil fuels for energy use include carbon dioxide produced during consumption of solid, liquid, and gas fuels and gas flaring. Not included are emissions from burning wood and biomass and from some industrial processes such as cement production as well as international marine and air transport. They are calculated using the IEA energy data and the default methods and emission factors from the Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. This ratio of CO2 emission in metric tonnes per capita has been calculated using the Sectoral Approach CO2 emissions and population data from WDI and OECD.

Unit: metric tonnes per capita
