Press release No. 381 of 24 October 2016

WIESBADEN – At the end of 2015, roughly 7.6 million severely disabled people were living in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of around 67,000 or 0.9% compared with the end of 2013. Accordingly, 9.3% of Germany's total population were severely disabled in 2015. Slightly more than half (51%) of the severely disabled were men. People are classed as severely disabled if a Versorgungsamt (pension office) has determined a degree of disablement of 50 or more and a valid disability pass has been handed over.
