Press release No. 172 of 3 May 2023

WIESBADEN - In 2022, domestic and international visitors used the four big online platforms of AirBnB, Booking.com, TripAdvisor and Expedia to book a total of 38.6 million overnight stays in holiday dwellings and homes in Germany. As a result, the four online platforms recorded 39.8% more overnight bookings than in 2021. That year was still severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the accommodation of private visitors was banned until the end of May. The pre-Covid level of 2019 was even exceeded in 2022. In 2019, domestic and international visitors had booked 37.2 million overnight stays in Germany via the online platforms. By comparison, the number of overnight stays was 3.6% higher in 2022. These data have been provided by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) publishes the data for the first time to supplement its monthly tourism statistics.
