Press Imports from Russia down 91.0% in February 2023 on the same month a year earlier

  • Exports to Russia down 60.5% in February 2023 on the previous year
  • Germany records first export surplus in trade with Russia since December 2020

WIESBADEN – Russia has become much less important for Germany's foreign trade since the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine on 24 February 2022. In February 2023, German imports from Russia were 91.0% lower than in February 2022. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany imported goods from Russia to the value of just 0.3 billion euros (February 2022: 3.7 billion euros). As a result, Russia fell from 11th place to 46th place in the ranking of Germany’s major suppliers of goods.
