- Number of new apprenticeship contracts rising for the second consecutive year but still recovering only slowly from the strong decline of the Covid year 2020
- 2.9% more new apprenticeship contracts in industry and trade, 2.3% less in the crafts sector
- Total number of apprentices down 3% from 2021
WIESBADEN – 468,900 people in Germany concluded a new apprenticeship contract within the dual system (enterprise/vocational school) in 2022. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 0.6% compared with the previous year (2021: 466,200 new contracts). For the second year in a row, the number of apprenticeship contracts newly concluded rose slightly after having declined strongly in the Covid year of 2020 (463,300 new contracts). The number of new apprenticeship contracts was down 8% on 2019, however, and continued to be substantially lower than before the Covid-19 pandemic (2019: 510,900 new contracts).
