- Exported quantity of second-hand textiles decreased by 11% compared with 2021, main importers were Poland and the Netherlands
- On a global scale, only the USA exported more old textiles in 2021, China followed in third place
- In Germany, 70% more textile and clothing waste was collected from households within ten years
WIESBADEN – Germany exported approximately 462,500 tonnes of old clothes and second-hand textiles in 2022. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decrease of 10.7% compared with the previous year (518,100 tonnes). In relation to the total population in Germany, this represented 5.5 kilograms of second-hand textiles which were exported per capita in 2022.
