- Producer prices of natural gas up by 50.7%, of electricity by 27.3% and of mineral oil products by 12.6% in January 2023 on January 2022
- Petrol stations recently charged petrol prices about as high as in mid-February 2022
WIESBADEN – Russia’s attack on Ukraine on 24 February had a decisive impact on energy prices in Germany in the course of 2022. Although the trend had finally been downward, producer prices of energy were 32.9% higher in January 2023 than in January 2022, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The strongest price increase was recorded for natural gas (distribution) in that period. In January 2023 it cost 50.7% more than in January 2022, the month before Russia’s attack. Electricity prices were up by 27.3%. Mineral oil products such as heating oil and motor fuels cost 12.6% more in January 2023 than in January 2022 although prices had recently gone down considerably.
