WIESBADEN – In 2022, roughly 385,000 pupils in Germany attained the qualification to enter a university or university of applied sciences. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 2.1% decrease in the number of persons qualified to enter higher education compared with a year earlier (-8,300). The falling numbers are party due to demographic factors. As at 31 December 2021, the number of people in the relevant age group (17-19 years) had decreased by 0.6% on a year earlier.
