- 1.0% fewer students than in winter semester of 2021/2022
- Number of students slightly up at universities of applied sciences, contrary to the overall trend
- Number of first-semester students, too, increased in academic year 2022 after four decreases in a row
WIESBADEN – 1.0% fewer students are enrolled at German institutions of higher education in the winter semester of 2022/2023 than a year earlier. The number of students thus decreased for the first time after continuous growth since the winter semester of 2007/2008 (1,941,800 students). According to first provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), a total 2,915,700 students are enrolled at higher education institutions in Germany in the current winter semester. That is roughly 30,400 fewer students than in the winter semester of 2021/2022 (2,946,100).
