WIESBADEN – Roughly 45.6 million people were in employment in Germany in the third quarter of 2022.According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment rose slightly by 22,000 (0.0%) on the second quarter of 2022, following an increase of 123,000 people (+0.3%) in the second quarter of 2022.

Without adjustment for seasonal effects, the number of persons in employment increased by 166,000 (+0.4%) due to the beginning autumn upturn. In 2022, this seasonal upturn was however lower than the relevant average of the three pre-crisis years 2017 to 2019 (+224,000 people; +0.5%). Nevertheless, the number of persons in employment reached a new all-time high. The former record high, which also amounted to 45.6 million persons in employment with place of employment in Germany, had been reached in the fourth quarter of 2019. It was exceeded by 82,000 people, or 0.2%, in the third quarter of 2022.
