- Continued upward trend of employment in environmental protection but slightly weaker green job growth compared with previous years
- Manufacturing remained the environmental protection sector with the largest workforce despite a marked decline in the manufacture of machinery and equipment
- More green jobs in the construction industry and the service sector
WIESBADEN – In 2020, approximately 311,000 people (measured in full-time equivalents) in Germany had green jobs and produced goods and services to protect the environment. Compared with 2019, the number of green jobs rose by 6,000, or 2.0%, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Employment growth was thus somewhat weaker than in the years before. From 2016 to 2019, an average 18,000 jobs, or 6.7%, had been created each year in environmental protection.
