- Total area under fruit trees 1.5% smaller than in 2017
- Organic production on the rise: a good 20% of the fruit tree area farmed organically
- Apple trees still accounting for the largest cultivated area
WIESBADEN – There currently are 6,500 fruit growing holdings in Germany, which cultivate fruit trees on 49,200 hectares. According to the final results of the 2022 orchard survey, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the number of holdings declined by 9.2% since the last survey in 2017. The tree area, in contrast, remained almost unchanged (49,900 hectares in 2017). Each holding thus cultivated 7.6 hectares on average, which is 0.6 hectares more than in 2017.
