WIESBADEN – After a significant decrease in 2020, the first pandemic year, the number of higher education graduates has risen again. In the examination year 2021 (winter semester 2020/2021 and summer semester 2021), approximately 518.000 students and doctoral candidates achieved a degree at German institutions of higher education. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 9% compared with the examination year 2020 (477.000) and of 2% compared with 2019 (512,000). In 2020, many examinations were postponed to the next semester because of the pandemic, which resulted in catch-up growth in 2021.
