WIESBADEN – In the first six months of 2022, 1,238 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 131 people, or 12%, from the first half of 2021. The number of people injured rose by 20% to just under 163,800. Compared with the 1st half of 2019, the year preceding the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people killed decreased by 238 (-16%) and that of people injured by 18,285 (-10%).
