WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 1.6% and the nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 0.5% lower, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in June 2022 compared with May 2022. Compared with June 2021, retail trade recorded an 8.8% decrease in turnover in real terms in June 2022. This was the largest year-on-year decrease since the beginning of the time series in 1994. In nominal terms, turnover was down by just 0.8%. The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases in retail trade, which have a noticeable adverse effect on the consumption climate.
