- 22% of them worked extra hours in the form of unpaid overtime
- Extra hours frequent especially in financial and insurance activities and in energy supply
WIESBADEN – Overtime is part of their daily routine for many employees in Germany. An average 4.5 million of them worked more than agreed upon in their employment contract in 2021. This is 12% of the total of 37.8 million employees, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). With a proportion of 14%, men worked extra hours slightly more often than women (10%).
