- Number of stillbirths per 1,000 births rose from all-time low of 3.5 in 2007 to 4.3 in 2021
- Higher stillbirth rate in eastern Germany than in western Germany
- Slight increase in stillbirths in all age groups
WIESBADEN – In 2021, the number of stillborn children in Germany was 3,420. This corresponds to 4.3 stillbirths per 1,000 births. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that a slight upward trend in the rate has been recorded since 2010, following an all-time low of 3.5 stillbirths per 1,000 births in 2007. 4.1 children per 1,000 births were stillborn in 2020 and 2019 each.
