Press release No. N 039 of 27 June 2022

  • Petrol cost less than in Germany only in Poland, the Czech Republic and Luxembourg, compared with its EU neighbours
  • Diesel fuel prices remaining at a high level at petrol stations in Germany following a decline on 1 June 2022

WIESBADEN – Petrol and diesel fuel cost less at German petrol stations recently than in most of the countries neighbouring Germany, or roughly the same, although motor fuel prices had been rising again after the “fuel discount” was introduced on 1 June 2022. Drivers in Germany paid 1.97 euros (daily average) for a litre of E5 supergrade petrol and 2.06 euros for a litre of diesel fuel on 20 June 2022, as the Federal Statistical Office reports on the basis of data from the European Commission and the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels (MTU Fuels) of the Federal Cartel Office. Compared with Germany’s immediate neighbours, the price of one litre of E5 supergrade petrol (or Eurosuper 95) was lower that day only in Poland (1.70 euros), the Czech Republic (1.93 euros) and Luxembourg (1.94 euros). Diesel fuel, too, was less expensive in Poland (1.69 euros), the Czech Republic (1.93 euros) and Luxembourg (2.00 euros) than in Germany.
