WIESBADEN – Employers in industry and the support services sector in Germany paid an average of 37.30 euros per hour worked in 2021. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany ranked seventh in terms of labour costs in the European Union (EU-27), just as in the previous year. A comparison across the EU shows that Denmark had the highest labour costs per hour worked (48.30 euros) and Bulgaria the lowest (6.80 euros). Adjusted for calendar effects, labour costs per hour worked in Germany increased by 1.4% compared with a year earlier.
