Largest quantity of timber logged since German reunification despite less damaged timber logged due to forest damage

WIESBADEN - In 2021 a total of 83.0 million cubic metres of timber was logged in German forests. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the volume of timber logged rose by 3.2% compared with the previous record high of 80.4 million cubic metres in 2020. The quantity of timber logged because of forest damage decreased. It was lower than the all-time high of the previous year (60.1 million cubic metres), falling by 16.0% to 50.5 million cubic metres in 2021 but remaining at a high level.
