WIESBADEN – Roughly 467,100 people in Germany concluded a new apprenticeship contract within the dual system (enterprise/vocational school) in 2021. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 0.3% from the previous year, when the number of new apprenticeship contracts stood at an all-time low of 465,700 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of new contracts concluded in 2021 was still considerably lower than in 2019, the year before the pandemic (2019: 513,300 new contracts).
