- Abortions had already declined by 0.9% in 2020
- Roughly 94,600 cases reported in 2021
WIESBADEN – Approximately 94,600 cases of abortions were reported in Germany in 2021, which was a decrease of 5.4% compared with the previous year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of abortions declined by just 0.9% in 2020, the first year affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. No obvious cause for the stronger decrease in 2021 can be identified from the data available.
