WIESBADEN – The number of passengers using regular public transport by railways, trams and buses in Germany in 2021 decreased by 4 % from the year 2020 and 34 % from the year 2019 before the Corona pandemic. According to results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the short distance regular transport was down to 7.8 billion passengers which is 4 % less than in 2020 and 33 % less than in 2019. Long distance bus transport was most heavily affected and decreased by 53 % compared to 2020 and by 87 % compared to 2019.
