WIESBADEN – The major part of electricity produced and fed into the grid in Germany in 2021 came from conventional energy sources. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the production of electricity from conventional energy sources increased by 11.7% compared with 2020 and accounted for 57.6% of total electricity production (2020: 52.9%). The proportion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources and fed into the grid decreased by 7.6% to 42.4% (2020: 47.1%). In total, just under 518 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were fed into the grid in 2021. That was 2.6% more than a year earlier, but 3.1% less than in 2019, the last year unaffected by the Covid-19 crisis.
