WIESBADEN – In 2021, 2,569 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decline of 150, or 6%, on a year earlier (2,719 fatalities) and 16% less than in 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic (3,046 fatalities). The number of traffic accident fatalities was the lowest since these statistics had first been compiled more than 60 years ago. The number of persons injured also declined in 2021, by 2% to roughly 321,000, compared with 2020.
