- Both parents in employment in 3.2 million couple families with children under eleven years in 2020
- 548,000 lone parents with children under eleven years were in employment, just under 43% of them full-time
WIESBADEN – Due to the high number of Covid-19 infections in Germany, many children have to be taken care of at home again; this is a challenge especially to working parents. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that there were approximately 4.5 million couple families with children under eleven years in Germany in 2020 where at least one parent was in employment. There were just under 3.2 million families with younger children where both parents worked; they accounted for well over two thirds (67%) of all couple families with children under eleven years.
