The Personal Inflation Calculator of the Federal Statistical Office shows deviations from the general price trend

Press release No. N 070 of 13 December 2021

WIESBADEN – In November 2021 the inflation rate as measured by the consumer price index for Germany reached the highest level since June 1992. However, the extent to which each individual is affected by the rise in prices depends on his or her consumption habits. Rents are a factor that is important for both the personal and the official inflation rate as rents account for a large proportion of consumption expenditure even though the relevant prices develop rather moderately. As a result of the current increase in prices, mobility and energy expenditures are also a really decisive factor regarding the personal inflation rate. The Personal Inflation Calculator available on the Federal Statistical Office’s website has been designed to compare the official inflation rate with personal inflation rates that are based on the individuals’ consumption patterns.

More information on consumer price statistics is contained in Fachserie 17, Reihe 7 "Verbraucherpreise für Deutschland". Detailed data of consumer price statistics can be found in the tables on the consumer price index (61111-0004) and (61111-0006) and on the harmonised index of consumer prices (61121-0002) and (61121-0004) in the GENESIS-Online database.
