WIESBADEN – In the pandemic year of 2020, the number of intensive care beds in German hospitals increased by roughly 5% (or 1,400) year on year to about 27,000, according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office. At the same time, the total of hospital beds declined by roughly 1.5%, or 7,400, to 486,700. These results represent annual averages; they do not provide information on changes in the number of beds during the year.
