- Still 7 people killed on average each day and more than 800 injured in road traffic
WIESBADEN - The number of people who died in traffic accidents in Germany is expected to reach a new all-time low in 2021. According to estimates of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) based on data available for the period January to September 2021, the number of traffic accident fatalities is expected to decrease to 2,450. This would be the lowest level since the statistics began more than 65 years ago. The previous low was 2,719 traffic fatalities in 2020, which was a decrease of 327, or 11%, from 2019 (3,046 traffic accident fatalities). The decreases are mainly due to the significantly lower volume of traffic compared with 2019, as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.
