WIESBADEN – Approximately 524,000 children were born in Germany from January to August 2021 according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The number of births rose slightly by 1.3% on the same period of the previous year. There were marked differences between the individual months. While the number of births barely changed in January, it grew by roughly 3% in February and April and by 7% in March, compared with the respective month a year earlier. A slight decrease was however observed in the months from May to July. Due to limited data availability, such a comparison still has little informative value for August 2021.
