Press release No. N 062 of 21 October 2021
WIESBADEN – There is more wind and less sunshine in autumn, which has a massive effect on the capacity utilisation of wind and photovoltaic power stations and, consequently, on electricity generation in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly one fifth (20.9%) of the wind power stations were working at full capacity (in purely mathematical terms) in the first six months of 2021. Full capacity is the maximum value that can theoretically be reached in optimal weather conditions. In the same period, the average capacity utilisation of photovoltaic power stations was 10.5%, whereas biogas power plants, which were operated independently of weather conditions, reached more than half (56.7%) of full capacity.
