Press release No. 469 of 6 October 2021
WIESBADEN – In 2020, the municipalities in Germany received trade tax revenue of roughly 45.3 billion euros. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of roughly 10.1 billion euros, or 18.2%, on the previous year. The impact of the coronavirus crisis on enterprises in Germany thus has become obvious also in terms of trade tax. Trade tax revenue was below previous year’s level in all Länder. The largest decreases among non-city Länder were recorded for Nordrhein-Westfalen (19.8%) and Sachsen (19.1%). As far as the city states are concerned, Hamburg recorded the largest decrease (32.2%) compared with 2019.
