Press release No. 459 of 30 September 2021
WIESBADEN – There will be considerably more people of retirement age in Germany by 2035. Based on results of the first medium-term population projection, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, between 2020 and 2035, the number of people aged 67 or over will rise by 22% from 16 million to an expected 20 million. The projection helps to understand whether, and how, pandemic-related changes might influence the pace of demographic change in the coming years.
