Wholesale selling prices, August 2021
+0.5% on the previous month
+12.3% on the same month a year earlier
WIESBADEN – In August 2021 the selling prices in wholesale trade rose by 12.3% compared with August 2020. This was the highest monthly annual rate of change since October 1974 after the first oil crisis (+13.2% compared with October 1973). In July 2021 and in June 2021 the annual rates of change had been +11.3% and +10.7%, respectively.
From July 2021 to August 2021 the index rose by 0.5%.
Crisis Monitor allows comparison between corona crisis and financial and economic crisis
The index of the wholesale prices are also part of the "Crisis Monitor" (www.destatis.de/krisenmonitor), which is used by the Federal Statistical Office to compare the development of major short-term indicators between the corona crisis and the financial and economic crisis of 2008/2009. The "Crisis monitor" complements the "Corona statistics" webpage (www.destatis.de/corona), which provides statistical information on the economic and social consequences of the corona pandemic.
