2020 Census of Agriculture: cattle were predominantly kept in loose housing (83%), 79% of pigs were housed on completely slatted floors
• Two thirds of laying hens are still kept in barns

WIESBADEN – Based on the final results of the Census of Agriculture, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 83% of cattle were kept in loose housing and 79% of pigs were housed on completely slatted floors on 1 March 2020. 65% of laying hens were kept in barns, which continued to be the predominant type of hen farming. In 2010, the corresponding proportions were 74% (cattle in loose housing), 67% (pigs on completely slatted floors) and 66% (laying hens in barns).
