Press release No. 393 of 19 August 2021
WIESBADEN – Apples remain by far the largest group of orchard fruit harvested in Germany. Orchard fruit growers expect apple yields of approximately 937,000 tonnes and plum/damson yields of 34,000 tonnes in 2021. Based on an estimate of July 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that apple yields will be nearly 87,000 tonnes, or 8.5%, lower than a year earlier. The quantity of apples harvested this year will presumably be 24,000 tonnes, or 2%, below the ten-year average.
