WIESBADEN – In 2019, households in Germany used more energy for housing purposes than a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the temperature adjusted amount of energy used was 722 billion kilowatt hours. This was an increase of roughly 1.1%, or 8 billion kilowatt hours, compared with 2018. Thus the increasing trend continued. While consumption declined by 14.5% between 2000 and 2012, it has tended to increase ever since. In 2019, it was 10.0% higher than in 2012.
