WIESBADEN – In 2019, enterprises in German industry (excluding construction) spent 41.3 billion euros on environmental protection. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this current expenditure on meeting environmental standards referred to the operation of environmental protection installations and facilities, among other things. It also includes charges, fees and other environmental protection services not related to installations, such as disposal services provided by companies, environmental protection advice and management. These are mainly follow-up costs of investments into installations and measures to eliminate, reduce or avoid emissions.
