WIESBADEN – In 2019, a total of 23.9 million tonnes of hazardous waste was generated in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 0.1 million tonnes on the previous year (2018: 23.8 million tonnes). Construction and demolition wastes made up 40% (9.6 million tonnes) of the total hazardous waste. Wastes from waste management facilities, public off-site waste water treatment plants and the preparation of water intended for human consumption and water for industrial use accounted for another 28% (6.7 million tonnes). Oil wastes and wastes of liquid fuels made up 6% (1.4 million tonnes) of the hazardous waste.
