WIESBADEN – In 2020, the number of people who immigrated to Germany exceeded the number of those who emigrated by roughly 220,000. Compared with the previous year when the number of immigrants exceeded the number of emigrants by roughly 327,000, net immigration was substantially lower in 2020. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that net immigration to Germany thus decreased for the fifth year in a row.
